National Action Network was founded in 1991 by Reverend Al Sharpton and is one of the leading civil rights organizations with chapters across the United States.  NAN is dedicated to promoting justice and equality for all and addressing the needs of underserved communities. NAN believes in promoting a modern civil rights agenda that includes the fight for one standard of justice, decency and equal opportunities for all people. NAN sees health and wellness as critical pillar of the modern civil rights agenda.  Each of NAN’s chapters is required to have a health and wellness committee to promote good nutrition and overall wellness in the communities they serve and to help families, adults and children establish healthy lifestyles to fight of chronic diseases. NAN also values criminal justice reform, police accountability, voting rights, pension diversity, crisis intake and victim assistance and youth leadership.

How CARE works with them

In an effort to provide a community-based solution to the overwhelming need for food assistance, CARE partnered with National Action Network and The Hutchins Foundation. 140,000 meals were distributed to vulnerable communities in Harlem and the Bronx in New York for COVID Relief. The NAN-CARE Partnership has brought tremendous relief and restored hope to communities that are very often overlooked.

City of San Francisco

San Francisco Department of Public Health WIC Program serves low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding parents, infants and children under the age of 5 to meet their health and nutrition needs.

How CARE works with them
CARE has partnered with the WIC program to provide DoorDash delivery drivers to allow 3,000 participants to receive fresh produce boxes from local farmers in the Bay Area.

Public Partnerships

PPL helps provide self- directed homecare for individuals with disabilities, chronic illness and aging adults eligible for public Medicaid assistance. PPL works with state governments to help provide in home care givers so patients have the independence to remain home and active within their communities.

CARE is partnering with PPL to provide a CARE Package Gift Mastercard® to thank homecare providers working in communities hardest hit by the pandemic. These providers provide an essential service for many who are extremely vulnerable to COVID-19.

ChildCare Aware of America

Child Care Aware® of America is a system of child care networks and works with more than 400 state and local Child Care Resource and Referral agencies nationwide.  CCAoA believes that every family in the United States should have access to affordable and high-quality child care. CCAoA leads projects that increase quality and availability of child care, undertakes research and advocates for child care policies that positively impact the lives of children and families.

How CARE works with them
CARE is partnering with CCAoA to provide a CARE Package Gift Mastercard® to thank child care providers working in communities hardest hit by the pandemic. These providers provide an essential service to hardworking families while readjusting their own facilities and schedules to ensure safety for their staff and clients.

United Food and Commercial Workers International Union

UFCW is a system of over 1000 local unions in the US and Canada comprising of 1.3 Million members.  UFCW unions work to ensure better wages, benefits and schedules to give hard working people control over their lives and ensure safety in their workplace.

How CARE works with them
Many of UFCW workers are grocery and other food retail workers. Since the start of the pandemic these workers have worked hard to ensure their communities have safe access to groceries and other essential supplies.  CARE is working with UFCW to provide a CARE Package Gift Mastercard® to thank UFCW food workers risking their own health and safety to keep stores open.

Missouri

National Association of Health Care Assistants

The National Association of Health Care Assistants is a small non-profit dedicated to elevating the professional standing and performance of Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs). CNAs typically work in nursing homes or hospitals and preform everyday living tasks for the elderly, chronically sick or rehabilitation patients who cannot care for themselves. The association has over 26,000 members. The NAHCA is dedicated to empowering CNAs through advocacy efforts to make sure they are properly recognized for their essential care and provide development training, mentoring programs and achievement recognition.

How CARE works with them
CNAs provide over 90% of direct patient care. They make up the largest group of employees working in healthcare facilities yet are often not regarded as essential healthcare workers. CARE is working with NAHCA to provide a CARE Package Gift Mastercard® to thank CNAs working in the areas hardest hit by the pandemic risking their own health and safety to protect the most vulnerable.

American Nurses Association

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is a leading organization representing the interest of the nation’s 4 million registered nurses. ANA works to advance the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promote a safe and ethical work environment, support the health and wellness of nurses and advocating on healthcare issues that affect nurses and the public. The ANA works to support and empower nurses and ensure the the profession continues to improve healthcare for all.

How CARE works with them
CARE is partnering with ANA to thank and support nurses working in areas hardest hit by COVID-19. CARE will provide physical CARE Packages to ANA members with items such as hand sanitizer and PPE so nurses can stay safe and continue to provide lifesaving services.

Akron

Akron-Canton Foodbank

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is the source of emergency food for nearly 500 food pantries, hot meal sites, shelters and other hunger-relief programs that directly serve individuals and families in Carroll, Holmes, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties. The food bank’s mission is to lead a collaborative network that empowers people to experience healthy and hunger-free lives. They distribute food to feed people, and advocate, engage and convene the community in the fight to end hunger.  Open M, Salvation Army and the Summitt Food Coalition are part of this larger network that provides food delivery to those in need. Open M provides food assistance to families through a group of food programs, including emergency food assistance. The Akron branch of the salvation army provides daily emergency food assistance and allows families to select their own food so their recipients can best address their unique needs . The Summit Food Coalition provides deliveries of fresh produce from local farms to families in need and is committed to supporting sustainable food systems.

CARE is partnering with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and its network of pantries by supporting weekly food deliveries via DoorDash drivers to vulnerable clients who cannot access food distribution sites in person.

Dare to Care

Dare to Care Food Bank leads community programs to feed the hungry and conquer the cycle of need. They fulfill this mission through innovative programs, efficient operations and by partnering with local food pantries, shelters and kitchens to get food to people in need.

Houston Food Bank

America’s largest food bank in distribution leading hunger relief in 18 southeast Texas counties. Founded in 1982, the Houston Food Bank is a certified member of Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network, with a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. They distribute fresh produce, meat and nonperishables and prepare nutritious hot meals for kids in our state-of-the-art Keegan Kitchen.

Community Outreach in Action

Community Outreach in Action seeks to improve and enhance the lives of our citizens by providing them with some life essential items, a degree of hope, and good spirit. Established in 2012, Community Outreach in Action, Inc. is a non-profit organization serving the citizens of South Metro Atlanta providing food items, household supplies and limited medical services.

CHRIS 180

CHRIS 180 helps children, young adults, and families through mental health counseling at the CHRIS Counseling Center; group homes for abused and neglected children in foster care; adoption services; a Drop-In Center for homeless young adults; permanent supportive housing program for single and parenting youth, ages 17-24, who are homeless or have aged out of the foster care system; in-home programs; and re-entry programs that work to strengthen families. CHRIS 180’s holistic approach enables children, youth and families to change the direction of their lives and become self-sufficient, contributing adults despite challenging circumstances.

CHRIS 180 was awarded a sub grant in partnership with CARE to expand employment by 40 subcontracted paraprofessionals, teachers, and school counselors to provide additional CARE Relief Packages and wellness checks.

Project Open Hand

Founded in 1985 during the AIDS crises in San Francisco and immediately deemed an essential business for the COVID pandemic, Project Open Hand is a nonprofit organization that provides meals with love to critically ill neighbors and seniors in the Bay Area. Food is like medicine, helping people to shelter in place with nutritious options, recover from illness, get stronger, and lead healthier lives. Every day, more than 2,500 nutritious meals and bags of healthy groceries are prepared and distributed to help sustain those that battle chronic health conditions, serious illness, isolation, or the health challenges of aging.

How CARE works with them
When COVID hit the Bay Area, the usual 125 daily volunteers that typically work with Project Open Hand were drastically reduced, making the increased workload and demand for nutritious meals even harder to distribute. CARE stepped in to organize and fund a partnership with Task Rabbit to provide daily drivers in San Francisco and Oakland to deliver frozen meals and groceries to Project Open Hand clients.

CityTeam SF

CityTeam San Francisco’s mission is to share unconditional and redemptive love by caring for immediate needs and enabling lasting solutions. Our flagship programs include Youth Collective – a transitional housing program for youth and CityTeam in the Neighborhood – community outreach which serves multiple neighborhoods in the city with mobile food pantries, home deliveries, hot-meals, and hygiene supplies.

Mobilize Love

Mobilize Love exists to show up and give kids hope. We do this by providing mobile human services. Our fleet of outreach trucks include a laundry truck, wellness truck, stage truck which renders sidewalk after-school programs, and the Bay Area’s first non-profit food truck. By giving children, youth, and families direct access to basic human services, we hope to give them a fair shot at life.

CARE partners with Mobilize Love to deploy its Food Truck to support high risk and underserved communities in the Bay Area with hot meal deliveries, while also employing youth from those communities to help execute the deliveries.

Central Valley

City of Stockton

StocktonStrong is a coalition of public, private and civic leaders and organizations collaborating to serve as Stockton’s COVID-19 Information and Resource Center. Serving as an agile, resilient, and collaborative response to COVID-19, StocktonStrong designs effective relief programs and shares available resources with the greater Stockton, CA community.

How CARE works with them
CARE is partnering with StocktonStrong to leverage DoorDash drivers to deliver approximately 200 produce boxes per week to low-income and elderly residents.

Berkeley Food Pantry

Since 1969, the Berkeley Food Pantry has been providing emergency groceries to households in Berkeley and Albany, California. The mission of the Berkeley Food Pantry is to provide families, especially those with children, with adequate sustenance and nutrition at times when bills for food, rent, health care, and other items overwhelm them. We provide a large selection of nutritious foods in the emergency grocery bags such as produce, fruit, eggs, dairy, fresh bread, frozen meat, frozen fish (or vegan alternative), and packaged foods  (e.g. peanut butter and breakfast cereal).  We are open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and offer food by appointment, walk-in, and home delivery.

How CARE works with them
During the COVID-19 crisis, the Pantry has been able to provide home delivery services as a result of CARE’s support via TaskRabbit delivery drivers.

Bayview Senior Services

Bayview Senior Services (BSS) came into existence in 1971 to bring about racial equity in services for low-income African American seniors who weren’t having their needs met.  Throughout its history, the agency has fought for social justice and provided programs to address economic and health disparities, improve access to services, and empower people to make positive changes for their lives.  Since the onset of COVID-19, our current program focuses on getting food to vulnerable populations by preparing food in our central kitchen and making it available for pick up at our three senior center locations and delivered to homes throughout San Francisco.

CARE is partnering with Bayview Senior Services to provide delivery support to augment the organization’s existing delivery operation to serve seniors in the Bayview neighborhood. TaskRabbit drivers deliver hot meals Monday-Friday to Bayview residents.

First 5

First 5 serves as a grant lead to 26 Family Resource Centers (FRCs) for the City and County of San Francisco. FRCs work to strengthen families, offer welcoming places to learn about child development, build parenting skills, and provide a supportive peer community. From the start of the COVID pandemic, Family Resource Centers increased efforts to address families’ critical food security and basic needs.

CARE is partnering with First5SF and the Family Resource Centers by leveraging DoorDash drivers to enable grocery deliveries to vulnerable populations and meet the rising demand for food in those communities that the Family Resource Center’s serve.

Atlanta Public Schools (APS) is a school district based in Atlanta, Georgia. It is run by the Atlanta Board of Education with superintendent Dr. Lisa Herring. The system has an active enrollment of 54,956 students, attending a total of 103 school sites. The school system also supports two alternative schools for middle and/or high school students, two community schools, and an adult learning center.
